Making Changes – the Transformation Choice
Here are some questions that will stimulate honest discussion and prayer. Feel free to use some or all of them to explore the topic. Remember to give time for friendship and socialising, as well as prayer and letting the Holy Spirit guide your time together
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Matthew 5v6
On Sunday we highlighted the story of Jacob. The complexity of Jacob’s situation was a product of his nature, circumstances and choices.
Talk with each other about the positive and negative influences you have experienced through:
- The physical and psychological characteristics you have inherited
- The circumstances of your upbringing, schooling, friendships, worklife
- The choices you have made and their consequences
(Make sure when you discuss these that you have a good balance of fun and interesting things, as well as those that are more serious!)
How easy or hard has it been to make the most of these positive influences, or to live differently to the negative influences?
“Let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind”
Romans 12v2
Choose some of these ways of co-operating with God to talk and pray with one another.
- Proverbs 17 v 4 - Focus on changing one defect at a time
- Matthew 6 v 34 - Focus on victory one day at a time
- Jeremiah 13 v 23 / Philippians 4 v 13 - Focus on God’s power not your own willpower
- Philippians 4 v 8/John 8 v 23 - Focus on the good things not the bad
- Galatians 5 v 16 - Focus on doing good, not feeling good
- 1 Corinthians 15 v 33 - Focus on people who help me, not hinder me
- Philippians 1 v 6 - Focus on progress not perfection
