Letting Go – the Commitment Choice

Here are some questions that will stimulate honest discussion and prayer. Feel free to use some or all of them to explore the topic. Remember to give time for friendship and socialising, as well as prayer and letting the Holy Spirit guide your time together

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Matthew 5v5
  • The word Meek in the bible is “Praus”. It was also applied to:
    • A soothing medicine; a breeze; a farmer’s colt that was broken in.
    • A good definition with all these applications is “ Strength under control”.
    • Discuss how we might apply this biblical meaning of the word “Meek” today?
  • In what situations is it hard to be both strong and gentle? (Don’t be distracted by Andrex…)
  • There are barriers to submitting ourselves to God – pride, guilt, worry, fear and doubt. Which ones do you most struggle with?
“Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”
Matthew 11 v 28 - 29
  • What do these verses (above) tell us about Jesus’ character? What does it mean to commit ourselves to Jesus’ yoke?

  • Commitment is all about letting go and accepting God’s will as your strategy. What would it look like to “Let go and let God”?

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
Philippians 4 v 13
  • Once you are able to let go, how can you then live in the light of this truth?
Share your stories of commitment to God. Pray for each other.
