These are personal reflections on the first in our lifechoices series - the reality choice; ways to pray and think, or journal throughout this week.

Monday:

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.”
Matthew 5 v 3

Consider what God is showing you about yourself and your actions. In what areas do you feel powerless, or lacking? Write/Talk to God about this.

Tuesday:

“I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right but I don’t do it. Instead I do the very thing I hate. I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong…but I can’t help myself, because it is sin inside me makes me do these evil things.”
Romans 7 v 15-17

Are there any of these kinds of tensions that you deny? What people, places or things cause this tension? How have you tried to manage these areas in your own strength, without God’s help? What is the Holy Spirit telling you?

Wednesday:

“Adam answered, “I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid”.”
Genesis 3 v 10

In what situations have you felt vulnerable and needing to hide? Do you ever feel the need to hide even from God? Is He the kind of God who will be angry and disappointed with you, or He is compassionate, loving, kind and ready to run towards you? Write down your image of God.

Thursday:

“Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size – abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become!”
2 Corinthians 12 v 10

Is Paul, the writer here, somehow unique or in denial, or is this the kind of ‘happiness’ that Jesus intends us all to have, (even) when we are spiritually poor? How possible is it for limitations that you face currently, to be the ways that Christ takes over, and you find both cheer and strength? Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you into this truth.

Friday

“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no-one to help him up.”
Ecclesiastes 4 v 9-10

Write down the names of people who you could journey spiritually with. Of these, with whom could you be accountable? After praying through them, who is the best choice? Talk with them and ask if they will walk with you during this series.
